Conduit Workshop takes its order from the systems that usually sit above everyday attention. Lines of metal conduit pass beneath a concrete ceiling, turning and gathering as they move through the room. In this imagined Toronto workspace, Assembly Room allows those services to remain visible. Their repeated paths become part of the interior's composition, connecting practical requirements to the experience of looking upwards.

The concrete shell provides a broad and uneven background. Marks in the surface describe its construction, while columns give the room a steady sequence of supports. Against this texture, the metal lines feel precise. Their bends and intervals create a finer rhythm, allowing the ceiling to be read at two scales: the span of the structure and the smaller movement of its services.

Where the lines change direction, the system becomes especially legible. Several parallel routes gather into a curve, then continue across another part of the ceiling. These moments give the room a sense of movement without adding a separate decorative element. A practical connection becomes a visual event because it has been left clear enough to understand.

The lower part of the workshop is conceived with the same attention to legibility. Open work areas sit within the structural grid, while finer elements provide local boundaries. The arrangement leaves room for tools, materials and people to change position. The more permanent systems remain visible overhead, giving the shifting activity below a continuous point of reference.

Light moves differently across the two principal surfaces. Concrete holds shadow in its texture; metal catches brightness along a narrow edge. As a result, a service line may become prominent from one position and quieter from another. The ceiling never reads as a completely flat image. It has depth, direction and a series of relationships that unfold while moving through the room.

Assembly Room treats the workshop as a place where making should be evident in the building as well as in its use. Exposed structure and services give the interior a directness that supports this idea. Ash Dining Room is conceived as an intimate place to gather around a substantial timber table. Quiet Volume places the dark surface within a pale concrete enclosure, allowing the furniture to become the centre of the Auckland interior. The room has a measured character, but its purpose is familiar: to bring people close enough for a meal, a conversation or an unhurried evening together.

The table establishes the strongest horizontal plane at the scale of the body. Its dark tone gives it weight against the floor and walls, while the surrounding chairs introduce a more delicate rhythm. The difference between the broad top and the thinner frames keeps the arrangement from becoming overly solid. Space remains visible beneath and between the furniture.

Above, a band of veined stone adds another register of detail. Its irregular pattern sits within a clear boundary, bringing variation to the otherwise quiet planes of the room. Concrete provides continuity around it. The two materials share a sense of density, yet their surfaces behave differently enough to give the interior depth without requiring a larger palette.

The walls are left with room for a few carefully placed objects. A small image can become a point of attention because the surrounding surface is calm. Shelving introduces another scale, offering ledges for the things that accumulate through use. These elements allow the room to feel occupied while preserving the clarity of its overall proportions.

Lighting is imagined as a gradual transition between the table and the perimeter. A brighter area at the centre supports the activity of dining, while softer reflections reveal the surrounding materials. Timber absorbs much of this light, keeping the table grounded. Stone and concrete return it differently, allowing the enclosure to remain present without competing for attention.

Quiet Volume gives the dining room its atmosphere through the relationship between a shared centre and a restrained boundary. Dark timber offers warmth and focus, while concrete and marble establish a durable setting around it. Ash Dining Room leaves the final layer to occupation: chairs moved closer, objects placed on the table and the changing pace of conversation.
